Posted on 10/2/2017
Defendant: Michael William Slager
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “Roughly two years and five dozen surgeries later, Judy Malinowski succumbed to her injuries from having gasoline poured on her and being set on fire by Michael Slager. The Coroner found that the cause of her death was a proximate result of the aggravated arson for which Slager is currently serving a sentence.” Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a capital indictment against Michael William Slager, age 42, for two counts of Aggravated Murder with Death Penalty Specifications and two counts of Murder, for a total of four counts, in connection to the incident that took place behind the Speedway gas station near the Heartland Bank branch at Stygler and Agler roads on August 2nd, 2015. Slager threw gasoline on his girlfriend, Judith A. Malinowski, age 31 at the time, and then, using a cigarette lighter, set her on fire. On June 27th, 2017, following almost a two year battle, Judy passed away from her burn injuries. Arraignment for Slager in this death penalty case should be set within a week or two.
