The Franklin County Grand Jury voted Thursday not to indict the officers involved in the August 2023 shooting that lead to the death of Jamie Overstreet.

On August 24, 2023, Columbus Division of Police officers responded to a call regarding a man allegedly violating a protection order. That individual was later identified as Jamie Overstreet, 37, of Columbus. Overstreet eventually led the responding officers on a vehicular chase, which ended when Overstreet’s vehicle became disabled.

Overstreet fled the scene on foot, and as officers pursued him, he pulled out a firearm. One CPD officer fired five rounds, striking Overstreet once. Despite police and medics attempting life-saving measures, Overstreet was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.

A grand jury only decides whether or not a crime has been committed. In this case, the grand jury also looked at whether any degree of unlawful criminal homicide occurred.
