Defendant: Derrick Wade Troutman
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man was managing and overseeing his victim’s activities in order to personally benefit financially.” Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that Derrick Wade Troutman, age 40, was sentenced to 7 years in prison after pleading guilty to human trafficking related charges for incidents that occurred in mid-August of 2017 at the Sheraton Suites Hotel located at 201 Hutchinson Avenue just north of Worthington. “Troutman posted and funded internet ads on Backpage.com and rented the hotel room for the victim’s ‘dates’ one of which ended up being an undercover Officer involved in a sting operation,” O’Brien stated. Troutman was also classified as Tier II Sex Offender and will be required to register with the County Sheriff every 180 days for a period of 25 years once he is released from prison. O’Brien commended the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force and the Columbus Police for their thorough investigation of this case.
