Posted on 6/5/2019

Defendant: Dr. William Scott Husel

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that a twenty-five (25) count indictment for separate counts of Murder (Section 2903.02, Ohio Revised Code) was filed by the Franklin County Grand Jury against Dr. William Scott Husel, D.O. in connection with treatment administered at Mount Carmel and St. Ann’s Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio between February 11, 2015 and November 20, 2018. The penalty for Murder is a prison sentence of 15 years to Life. Each count in the indictment alleges that Husel “purposely caused the death” of each of the
patients. O’Brien stated that fentanyl in various amounts between 500 and 2000 micrograms  was ordered by Dr. Husel and administered to patients that shortened their life and hastened or caused their death. Dr. Husel is presumed innocent and is expected to voluntarily turn himself in at Columbus Police Headquarters on or before noon on Wednesday. An arrest warrant was issued after his indictment and Husel is represented by Cleveland attorney Richard Blake with the firm of McDonald Hopkins. Dr. Husel has been free while the investigation was conducted but had surrendered his passport at the request of O’Brien, and will be arraigned this afternoon at 1:30 PM in Courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street, Columbus, Ohio.
