Columbus Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Fatal 2024 Birthday Party Shooting

Defendant: Al’Saiah Griffin
A Columbus man pled guilty and was sentenced to 25-30.5 years in prison for a fatal shooting at birthday party in east Columbus. Tyler Goins, 34, was killed. Al’Saiah Griffin, 32, pled guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter, Felonious Assault, and two counts of Tampering with Evidence.
Background:
On May 18, 2024 Al'Saiah Griffin attended a birthday celebration for Tyler Goins. During the course of the evening, the two got into an argument and Griffin pulled out a handgun. He left the party but returned a short time later and the argument continued.
A neighbor reported seeing Griffin yelling into the apartment making threats before hearing gunshots. Griffin fired multiple shots up the stairs which struck and killed Goins. Griffin fled the scene but later returned after police responded. Police arrested Griffin after he admitted to shooting Goins.
